Healthy Plainville, an initiative in town whose mission is to promote a healthy community for youth and families in Plainville, will be focusing on highlighting the many opportunities provided for youth and families to be physically active while having fun. Each month in 2020, the organization will showcase a different program.
In February, Healthy Plainville will be turning their focus to the Wheeler Regional Family YMCA middle school enrichment program of co-ed volleyball. The program is open to the community, members and nonmembers, in grades 6-8. The cost is $10 for 10 weeks of volleyball. Students can enroll at any time during the 10 weeks, which will run from Thursday, Feb. 20, to Thursday, Apr. 30, from 4 to 5 p.m.
According to officials, program participants will learn basic skills, rules, and scoring through scrimmage matches while socializing with friends. Snacks will be provided. Participants under 12 years old and nonmembers unfortunately are not eligible to stay at the facility after 5 p.m. without an adult and will need to be picked up.
The middle school enrichment program also offers programs in the arts, such as photography and theatre. To learn more about the offered programs or to enroll in the co-ed volleyball program, contact the YMCA by calling (860) 793-9631. The Wheeler Regional Family YMCA is located at 149 Farmington Ave., in Plainville.
