Registration still open for Apple Harvest Road Race

There’s still time to register for the 39th Annual Apple Harvest Road Races, which will take place on Sunday.

Interested runners have until Sept. 29 at noon for pre-registration at the YMCA membership desk. The first 1,200 registrants receive a free T-shirt. There will be plenty of refreshments for runners, along with music on the course itself. Race-day registration will be held from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Pre-race packages are available on Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The YMCA. Race information and online registration information can be found at sccymca.org/apple. For specific questions, contact John Myers at 860-621-8737.

The signature event, the 5-mile road race, begins at 8:30 a.m. on Columbus Boulevard. Race divisions include 10-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80 and over, and military. The Dave Gworek Memorial Award will be presented to the first Southington male and female to finish the race.

The cost for the race is $30 until Sept. 29, $20 for military or former military. Race-day cost is $35, $20 for military or former military. No dogs are allowed on the course, and baby strollers need to start at the back of the race.

The annual 2-mile walk is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on the Southington rail trail. The walk begins in front of the YMCA and costs $15.

The Little Fritter Fun Runs begin immediately following the road race at the Town Green. Kids’ races for ages 2-7 years will be run around the Town Green. The race cost is $15.

There will be awards for first, second and third place finishers in each division (no duplicate winners). Special teams running in the 5-mile or 5K races are Team Adam and Jim, Team SMSAA and Team Lauryn.
