Police arrested a Naugatuck man for recording people near the showers at the Southington YMCA at 29 High St.
On Monday, Feb. 5, police responded to a report that a camera was found in the drying off area of the adult male locker room. The investigation revealed that Leonidas Fernando Torres-Cabrera, 30, of Naugatuck positioned a cell phone in a gym bag with the camera activated in video recording mode.
The camera and gym bag were positioned such that the camera was aimed at the drying area and able to record males as they dried off after their shower. Torres Cabrera was seen in the area of the bag several times a short time prior to the camera being discovered, and that led to him being a suspect. He was interviewed by police and admitted that the gym bag and camera were his and that he set them up in the location.
Torres-Cabrera was charged with voyeurism and disorderly conduct. He was held on a $25,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Bristol court on Feb. 6.
