Police arrested Anthony Tobias, 26, of Meriden after stealing and destroying a ring from a Southington residence. The warrant stems from a theft investigation that was reported on July 2, 2016.
The warrant alleges that on June 17, 2016, the victim left a 14 karat gold, emerald, and diamond ring in the bathroom of a friend’s house. When the victim returned a couple days later to retrieve it, the ring was missing.
The homeowner remembered that Tobias had visited the residence on the same day as the victim. Information was received that Tobias had pawned the ring at a local pawn shop for $55. Investigators found that the stones had been removed from the ring and crushed. The appraised value of the ring $2,500.
On Tuesday, Aug. 30, Tobias was processed and charged with fourth degree larceny and held in lieu of a $2,500 bond with a same day court appearance.
