Crystal Bees and Mrs. Connecticut America are inviting people to put on their bowling shoes and have a ball at a fund raiser for Victoria’s Voice this Friday.
Mrs. Connecticut America Allyson Genovese-Naughton of Southington is working with the Spring Street entertainment facility for a Bowl-A-Thon on Friday, Aug. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The event benefits Victoria’s Voice (VictoriasiegelFoundation.org), which is “the highlighted charity of choice through Mrs. America,” explained Genovese-Naughton. “Each queen is asked to take on this charity as one of her own prior to the Mrs. America pageant to raise awareness and donations to help support the organization.”
Genovese-Naughton explained, “Victoria’s Voice is named after Victoria Siegel who lost her battle with substance abuse. Her family’s mission is to raise awareness and provide essential support to youth and families affected by substance abuse.”
Genovese-Naughton said it was a cause she could get behind because “Due to the growing epidemic our country faces with substance abuse I feel it is important to raise awareness with this issue. I have known people who have lost their lives due to addiction and to see how it tears families and loved ones apart is absolutely heart breaking.”
The charity effort is one Genovese-Naughton said she takes seriously. “As the reigning Mrs. Connecticut America, it is important for me to reach out and lend a hand with this cause in my community because almost 130 people die from drug overdoses everyday. Imagine how many people in just our community alone suffer and we don’t even know it.”
The fund raiser at Crystal Bees is just one of the local—and national—causes Genovese-Naughton has lent her name to. “I support many causes locally and nationally. I feel it is important to give back any way I can. I have a roof over my head, food in my belly, a healthy family so I am very fortunate, not everyone is. I also believe that it is the little things that matter and make a difference.”
Genovese-Naughton, who will be heading to Las Vegas on Aug. 27 to compete for the Mrs. America crown, teamed up with Crystal Bees because they “decided it would be a great opportunity to partner up and bring a Bowl-A-Thon to Southington. It’s a great way to showcase their beautiful facility that is new to town and a great way for me to meet more people within our community all while helping a great cause. I am honored to partner with them for this amazing event.”
“I urge our community to come together to not only support this amazing cause but come out and enjoy yourself, bring the kids as this is a family event, take pictures with Mrs. Connecticut and have some good ol’ fashion fun,” said Genovese-Naughton.
The fund raiser Bowl-A-Thon is Friday, Aug. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Crystal Bees, 240 Spring St., Southington. The cost is $10 per person to bowl. There will be raffles, an arcade, drinks at the bar. No tickets are needed prior to the event. If you are bringing a large group to bowl, however, call Crystal Bees ahead of time, (860) 276-2337, to get your name on the list.
