To the editor:

As a Southington homeowner whose property has twice been impacted by town projects, I feel true sympathy for fellow residents who are affected by the solar panel project. I echo the sentiments, however, of letter writer Nancy Chiero (8/27) in support of our Town Councilor Tom Lombardi, who has come under fire during the project. I too have known Councilor Lombardi for several years, and can say he is diligent, sincere, and straightforward—the type of person we hope for in our our elected officials.

I am registered as an independent voter, so I have no allegiance to either political party, only to the town of Southington. Sadly, over the years—and often prior to elections—I’ve seen partisan, negative swipes at candidates and incumbents in an attempt to undermine people who want to serve in these difficult, unpaid positions. How ironic that the strengths, backgrounds, and professional experiences we seek in our town leaders are then used to discredit them! Based on personal knowledge, I am comfortable that Councilor Tom Lombardi keeps the best interests of Southington at the forefront of all his decision-making.
