Southington UNICO donated $1,000 to the Salvation Army during the holiday season in order to help fund the town of Southington’s food pantry located at Southington Community Services.
The donation has become an annual occurrence in connection with a Salvation Army bell ringing fundraiser at Southington WalMart, which matches all donations collected during the two-hour event.
According to Community Services Assistant Director Mark Fazzolari, UNICO’s donation will help Southington families in myriad ways including the purchase of food and heating oil.
“Southington UNICO is very generous throughout the year to Community Services and the organization’s ongoing support is of tremendous benefit to families in need in our community,” said Fazzolari, who is also a UNICO member.
Southington UNICO President and state Rep. David Zoni agreed, further noting that the club’s members, of which there are more than 80, overwhelmingly support the town’s food pantry and its mission.
“This is just one of several donations we make throughout the year in order to help those less fortunate,” said Zoni. “As a service organization, we are committed to contributing to the well-being of our community.”
