Police make arrest in 2012 attack

This just in from Bristol Police:
On May 22, 2012 at about 9:29 p.m., Bristol Police responded to 40 Orchard St. on a report of an unresponsive male. Upon their arrival, Bristol Police learned that 18-year-old Jesus Vega had fallen unconscious at Bracket Park earlier. Several of his friends had carried him home to 40 Orchard St. where police and Emergency Medical Services were summoned. Vega was initially transported to Bristol Hospital where it was determined that he was suffering from bleeding in the brain. Vega was then transported to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery for his injury. Jesus Vega never regained consciousness and died at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center on May 28, 2012.
The police investigation revealed that Vega’s injuries and subsequent death were the result of an unprovoked assault. The investigation revealed that Vega’s injury occurred when he was punched in the head by Johnnie Vail, while playing basketball at Bracket Park. The punch knocked Vega unconscious and he fell to the ground. Vega never regained consciousness and died as a result of injuries sustained by the punch.
An arrest warrant was obtained for Johnnie Vail, 23, of the Cheshire Correctional Facility (where he is being held on unrelated charges) for first degree manslaughter. The warrant was served on Vail on April 17 and he was held for court on a $100,000.00 cash bond with an arraignment scheduled for April 17.
