The Blue Knights marching band wrapped up their fall season with a second place title at their nationals competition at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Saturday, Nov. 10. The band scored 95.113, and earned the caption award for best overall effect.

The band also won the prestigious Cadets Award of Excellence, which is given in recognition of the band’s creativity, performance, overall effect and professionalism on and off the field.

The top three National Championship spots were all filled by Connecticut marching bands, according to officials.

Just one week prior, the band competed in the US Bands New England States competition as well as the New England Regionals just three days later. The states competition had been rescheduled due to weather from Saturday, Oct. 27 to Wednesday, Oct. 31.

The Blue Knights came in second in their division at states, winning the caption awards for best color guard and best visual effects. They earned a score of 95.275.

At the regionals competition, the band faced extremely high winds, but kept good spirits. The BKMB earned a fourth place finish with a score of 95.275.

Southington was recognized as runners up, along with the caption award for best overall effect and the Cadets Award of Excellence.

It took seven coach buses and three 26-foot box trucks for the band to bring their show to life at MetLife Stadium for nationals.

While the season wrapped up, the band still had a couple of shows to perform. The BKMB performed their annual Veterans Day Concert on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Tickets went for $5 and all proceeds benefited the Veteran’s Home in Connecticut.

The final encore performance of the Fall 2018 show, “Destiny: West,” will be showcased on Thursday, Nov. 22 at the half time show of the annual Thanksgiving football game, hosted by Southington. As tradition goes, Southington will face off against their turkey day rival, Cheshire. The game begins at 10 a.m.
