Obituary: Lauretta (Doleski) Hopko, 91

Lauretta (Doleski) Hopko, 91, of Southington, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 20, 2019.   She was the loving wife of the late Robert S. Hopko, Sr., with whom she shared 58 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2011.   Lauretta was born in New Britain on August 31, 1928, the beloved daughter of the late Michael and Antonia (Styger) Doleski.   She was a 1946 graduate of New Britain High School.  She married Robert (Bob), the love of her life, on September 1, 1952, and moved to Southington, where the couple raised three children.  While Southington remained their home, Lauretta and Bob also enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family in Florida and Westerly, R.I.

Lauretta devoted her life to her family, showering them with love and kindness and always putting their needs before her own.  She was actively involved in her children’s lives.  She made holidays and birthdays very special and carried on family traditions.  In the midst of caring for her family, Lauretta also found time to share her creative talents with others through quilting, crocheting and ceramics. The loving and caring ways which Lauretta lavishly shared with her family were shared in the same way with the young students at William Strong Elementary School, where Lauretta worked as a paraprofessional for over 25 years.  She was passionate about helping young children, and remembered their names forever.

Lauretta was the loving mother of Dr. Robert S. Hopko (Gwynne), Suzanne H. Naples (Jeffrey), and Kathleen M. Hopko, all of Southington.  She also leaves her grandchildren, whom she cherished, Andrew Hopko (Kara), Philip Hopko (Adriana), Emily Hopko, Kristin Naples, Kaitlyn Naples and Jennifer Naples Pugh (Zachary), and her precious great grandchildren John, Julia and Matthew Hopko.  Survivors also include her sister, Genevieve Malinowski and a sister-in-law, Shirley Lovesky (George), as well as several nieces and nephews.   In addition to her husband and parents, Lauretta was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ostroski, and her mother-in-law, Jean Hopko.

The family would like to specially thank Kate Hutton, the angel who came into our lives to help care for Lauretta and enable her to remain at home.

Funeral services will begin on Friday, December 27 at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Church, Southington, at 10:00 a.m.   She will be laid to rest in Immaculate Conception Cemetery alongside her beloved husband. Calling hours will be at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home on Thursday, December 26 from 5-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lauretta’s memory may be made to the Office of Radio and Television, Archdiocese of Hartford, 15 Peach Orchard Rd, Prospect, CT 06716, for the Celebration of the Eucharist Daily Mass.
