Rosetta L. Scimonelli, 91, of Manchester, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of the late Benjamin M. Scimonelli, “Benny,” for 55 years.
She was born on December 3, 1927 in Ficarazzi , Palermo, Italy ; the daughter of the late Mariano and Annie (Salvia) Licciardi. Rosetta was a dedicated teacher at St. Anthony’s School in Winsted where she taught for 18 years and became Assistant Principal for Principal Salvatrice Mazzarella. After her move to Rocky Hill, she continued to teach at St. Peter’s School and Cathedral School in Hartford. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. Rosetta also loved spending winters in Delray Beach, Florida . She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by two sons, Attorney Paul Scimonelli and his wife Maria and Dr. Richard Scimonelli; and her daughter, Annalisa Macchiarella and her husband Stefano; her six grandchildren, Michael and fiancée Rachel, Francesco, Roberto and Leonardo Scimonelli and Michele “Mike” and Rosanna Macchiarella and great grandson, Benjamin Michael Myron Scimonelli. She is also survived by a sister, Giuseppina “Pina.”
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Rosalia and a brother, Salvatore.
Friends may call on Friday, February 8, 2019 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street , Winsted from 6 – 8 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at St. Joseph ’s Church, Winsted at 12 PM. Burial will be held in the spring.
