A ladies guild member at St. Thomas Church in Southington organized a special gift drive as a gift for the parish priest.
Rather than gift him with gift cards or money, she had the idea to have the parishioners donate 50 pairs of new socks in his honor.
The sock drive was in recognition of Father Joseph Cronin’s 50th birthday.
The response was overwhelming. The ladies guild was deluged with over 1,100 pairs of socks, and the group was able to make donations to The Friendship Center in New Britain, St. Vincent De Paul Shelter in Waterbury, Southington Community Services, St Joseph’s Residence, The Salvation Army and Shelter in Meriden, and Carolyn’s Place in Waterbury.
It already has parishioners thinking about making this an annual event.
