Leigh Pechillo of Southington was recently recognized by the American Heart Association with the inaugural “Woman of Distinction” award at the 2018 Go Red For Women luncheon.
The award will be presented annual to a volunteer who has been actively supporting or advancing women’s issues as an advocate and has raised funds to support education and research which directly impacts Connecticut communities.
Pechillo has been an AHA volunteer for over 12 years, helping to raise over $100,000 as a Jump Rope For Heart coordinator at her children’s school and through her Heart Walk team.
She is a volunteer spokesperson, a heart survivor, along with her husband and her son, sharing their story of heart with the media and at public events.
She is also an AHA advocacy committee member, and most recently represented Connecticut at the 2017 Lobby Day in Washington, D.C.
