Handyman arrested for stealing jewelry

Jeffrey Couture, 37, of Terryville, turned himself into the Southington Police Department on Tuesday, Feb. 20 after learning that there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The warrant stemmed from jewelry theft incidents during his work as a handyman.

The police investigation revealed that Couture was doing handyman work at a Southington residence, doing work over a course of three days. While doing that job, Couture allegedly stole more than $10,000 in jewelry and took loose change from a jar that was in the home.

Couture sold some of the jewelry to area pawn shops, which was recovered by police. Police are still working to locate and recover the remaining jewelry.

Couture was charged with second degree larceny. He was held on a $15,000 bond, and he was scheduled to appear in Bristol court on Feb. 20.
