Slip, sliding away at Memorial Park

On Tuesday, Jan. 2, the Town of Southington officially opened the ice skating and ice fishing season in town, and it didn’t take long for residents to take advantage. Above, Sandy Willis teaches her daughter, Ashley, to skate at the Memorial Park pond. Skating is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day with one extra hour on Friday and Saturday nights. Ice fishing is available from sunrise to sunset at Crescent Lake. Ice thickness will be monitored for safety by the Public Works departments, so check for “No skating” or “Unsafe ice” signs before heading out on the ice.
