SOCCA SHORT FILM CONTEST. Register entries through Friday, Sept. 1. Contest is open to Southington residents, ages 14-18. Create your own short film (3-5 minutes). Winners will be screened during the Apple Harvest Festival. Topics can vary, but all entries must include an apple in the footage. Cost for submissions is $20. SOUTHINGTON

VENTURA & MCNALLY EXHIBIT RECEPTION. 6 p.m. at SoCCA, Main St. and Berlin Ave. Meet the artists behind the two-person September exhibit, Elizabeth McNally and Joe Ventura. The absurdities of life is their shared inspiration for their unique work, which features painting, printmaking, drawing, collage and sculpture.

SOUTHINGTON

DAVE ZARRELLA – MEET THE SCULPTOR. 6 p.m. at SoCCA, Main St. and Berlin Ave. Cost is $15. Born and raised in Southington, Dave Zarrella is now a famous sculptor who will be signing copies of his new coffee table book at SoCCA.

RITA SARRIS, ANN O’BRIEN AND MARIA COLACRAI. At The Gallery of the Orchards in the upstairs community room at 34 Hobart St. The three Cheshire artists are the artists of the month. The title of their show is “A Conversation With Art,” which includes oils, pastels and acrylics. All paint from nature and places they have visited with landscapes, seascapes, and still life.
