Southington American Legion Baseball: Post 72 bounced back from its loss to Winsted (14-8) in yesterday’s doubleheader by blanking Terryville (4-17), 5-0, on the road, recording its fourth shutout of the season. Josh Panarella gave Southington a 1-0 advantage after driving in a run on a 6-3 putout in the opening inning. With two outs in the same inning, Bailey Robarge (2-for-3) added a couple more runs with a RBI single. In the third, Jonathan Gray extended Southington’s lead to four with a sacrifice fly, and a batter later, Robarge capped off the win with another RBI single. Southington finished with seven hits. Nick Borkowski (5-0) remained undefeated on the year after throwing his third complete game shutout of the season on the mound with six strikeouts, allowing just five hits. Southington will wrap up the week and the regular season when it hosts Terryville tomorrow and Wolcott (11-10) on Wednesday in its regular season finale. Post 72 is currently 16-6 overall.
Bristol Blues Baseball: Bristol’s two-game winning streak was snapped after the Blues fell by a run, 5-4, to the Worcester Bravehearts (15-17) at home. The Bravehearts jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage with a pair of runs in the opening inning. The Blues took the lead, 4-2, with a run in the third and three in the fifth until the Bravehearts regained the lead for good with three runs in the sixth and seventh combined. Pat Demarco tied the game with a RBI single that scored a pair of runs with two outs and the bases loaded in the sixth. Greg Kocincki singled for the game-winning hit in the next inning with two outs and runners on first and second. The Blues finished with seven hits and three errors, as the Bravehearts stranded 18 runners on base. Jayson Gonzalez went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, a run scored, a home run, and a walk. Mark Tumosa went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk. Malachi Edmond (0-1) started on the mound and went four innings with four strikeouts, allowing five walks and four hits. Keith Grant (0-2) was credited with the loss after going one and one-third innings with two strikeouts, two hits, an earned run, and a walk. Joel Torres, Jake Frasca, and Jacob Wallace (0-3) saw some action on the mound as well. The Blues will wrap up the week with contests against the divisional Wachusett Dirt Dawgs (18-13), divisional Bravehearts, divisional Pittsfield Suns (17-16), Brockton Rox (19-13), and North Shore Navigators (12-17). Bristol is currently 17-15 overall.
