Scoreboard: Sports results on Wednesday, Jan. 18

These are the results for Southington High School’s varsity contests for Wednesday, Jan. 18. For more in-depth coverage, read next week’s Southington Observer.

 

Ice Hockey: The Warrior Knights dropped their second-straight game and suffered their fourth loss of the season by a goal, 2-1, to EO Smith-Tolland (4-3) at the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum in Storrs. The Warrior Knights will wrap up the week when they visit Wethersfield-Middletown-Rock Hill-Plainville (6-1) at the Newington Arena Saturday, Jan. 21. Hall-Southington is currently 2-4-1 overall.

Boys Swimming & Diving: The Blue Knights remained undefeated with their third win of the season in a five-point victory, 95-90, over Avon at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, which was their closest win on the season thus far. First-place finishes included the following: Zack Blake, Brendon Egan, Nick Kelley and PJ Ramsey in the 200 freestyle relay (1:36.69); Blake in the 50 freestyle (23.60); and Egan in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.50). Blake hit the exact automatic qualifying time in the 50 freestyle to clinch a spot for the Class LL meet. Emerson Suski (171.85) and Kian Siadat (161.1) also qualified for the state meet with second and third-place finishes in diving. The Knights will wrap up the week when they travel to East Hartford on Friday, Jan. 20.

Wrestling: The Blue Knights remained undefeated in the CCC with their ninth win of the season in a 50-25 victory over Hall at home. Austin Abacherli (152), Paul Calo (160), Richie Rivera (220), Jimmy Starr (285), Caleb Brick (106), Jacob Cardozo (113), and Tim Budnik (145) all landed pins in the match. Shaun Wagner (132) clinched the win with a 10-2 major decision. Budnik scored the fastest pin at 14 seconds into his bout. Calo secured a pin with three seconds remaining in his bout. Southington forfeited the 126-pound weight class. The Knights will wrap up the week when they travel to Plaistow, NH to wrestle in the Timberlane Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 21. Southington is currently 9-1 overall.
