Naugatuck Police and Connecticut State Police are searching the High Rock and the area west of Route 8 in search of a Southington bank robbery suspect. The suspect was being pursued by officers from multiple jurisdictions before his car became disabled in Naugatuck on Route 8, and the suspect fled into the area being searched.
The incident began when Southington police received a report of a hold up alarm from TD Bank (121 Main St.) at approximately 9:50 a.m. this morning. It was reported that a lone white male suspect entered the bank and passed a note demanding money. The teller gave the suspect an undetermined amount of money, and the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, a green SUV.
A Southington officer was responding to the scene when he observed the suspect vehicle on West Center Street. He attempted to stop the SUV. It stopped momentarily, but drove away. Based on the poor roadway conditions, pursuit was terminated. A description of the suspect vehicle was broadcast to surrounding towns in attempt to locate the vehicle.
Southington Detectives are on-scene investigating and attempting to obtain surveillance video. There was no weapon shown and none implied.
A follow up release will be sent as more information is developed.
