Police arrested a Southington woman for making a false statement about a domestic violence assault. Shawnya Watson, 32, of Southington was arrested at her residence on Nov. 25 at approximately 8:15 p.m. for making a false statement.
The warrant alleges that Watson came to the Southington police headquarters on Oct. 15 and reported that she was a victim of an assault/domestic violence incident on Oct. 10. Watson claimed that she was physically assaulted during the incident.
Watson initially provided a signed sworn statement regarding the incident, but she later recanted her initial statement in a second statement. The suspect that was named in the initial statement was never arrested as a result of the false statement.
Watson was taken into custody without incident and was charged with falsely reporting an incident in the second degree and two counts of second degree false statement. She was released on a $1,000 bond and given a court date of Dec. 5 at the Bristol Court.
