Girls Swimming & Diving: The Lady Knights traveled to Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven to compete at the Class LL swimming championship, placing 12th overall out of 20 teams with a score of 148 points, two spots better than last year’s finish. Olivia Fournier advanced to the state open by finishing 11th in the 100 freestyle (54.03) and 13th in the 50 freestyle (24.82), breaking her own school record in the 50 freestyle. Fournier also advanced to the state open by teaming up with Hannah Olsen, Julia Mularczyk, and Kerry Buchanan in the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.12), finishing 10th and breaking a school record as well. Olsen, Jess Piotrowski, Patrycja Zajac, and Sam Sagnella finished 10th in the 200 medley relay (2:00.31), and Buchanan, Mularczyk, Piotrowski, and Fournier finished 11th in the 400 freestyle relay (3:51.82). Zajac finished 18th in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.62), and Buchanan finished 21st in the 500 freestyle (5:31.06) and 24th in the 200 freestyle (2:03.32). Greenwich (854) won the Class LL title for the seventh-straight year. Ridgefield (570.5) finished as the runner-up for the second-straight year, followed by Staples (470). Fournier, Olsen, Mularczyk, and Buchanan will represent Southington in the state open at Yale University in New Haven on Saturday, Nov. 19. Fournier is seeded 17th in the 50 freestyle and 20th in the 100 freestyle. Olsen, Mularczyk, Buchanan, and Fournier are seeded 20th in the 200 freestyle relay. Warm-up is at 10 a.m., and competition is at noon.
