These are the results for Southington High School’s varsity contests for Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12. For more in-depth coverage, read next week’s Southington Observer.

 

Football: The Blue Knights remained undefeated by recording their third shutout of the season in a 42-0 win over Bulkeley/HMTCA/Weaver (0-9) at home on Friday. Southington scored all 42 points in the first half, posting over 40 points for the eighth time this season. Vance Upham paced the offense with 97 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries. Upham also anchored the defense with five tackles (2 assists), recovering a fumble for a touchdown. Brandon Kohl rushed for 61 yards and a score on six carries. Will Barmore completed five of six passes for 47 yards and a touchdown. Anthony Plantamuro (2 tackles, forced fumble) caught four passes for 41 yards and a score. Plantamuro also rushed three times for 29 yards. Paul Schweiger (4 tackles), Matt Meade (3 tackles), Joe Koczera (3 tackles, 2 assists), Ian Hall (3 tackles, 3 assists), Matt Thompson (2 interceptions), Rich Rivera (fumble recovery), Sean Scanlon (fumble recovery), Robert Bunting (forced fumble), and Angelo Plantamuro (forced fumble) contributed as well. Southington is currently 9-0 overall, dropping from the top team in the Class LL standings to third. The Knights will host Cheshire (6-3) in their regular season finale on Thanksgiving Day at 10 a.m. The Rams are currently ninth in Class LL.

Girls Swimming & Diving: Southington competed in the Class LL swimming trials at East Hartford High School on Saturday. Olivia Fournier advanced to the finals in both the 50 freestyle (25.16) and 100 freestyle (54.73), seeded 14th in the 50 freestyle and 11th in the 100 freestyle. Kerry Buchanan advanced to the finals in both the 200 freestyle (2:03.63) and 500 freestyle (5:33.33), seeded 22nd in both events. Patrycja Zajac advanced to the finals in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.29), seeded 19th. Zajac, Jess Piotrowski, Sam Sagnella and Hannah Olsen advanced to the finals in the 200 medley relay (2:01.16), seeded 11th overall. Olsen, Fournier, Kailey Hinckley, and Julia Mularczyk advanced to the finals in the 200 freestyle relay (1:45.75), seeded 11th overall. Buchanan, Piotrowski, Julianna Ferreri, and Evelyn Holbrook advanced to the finals in the 400 freestyle relay (4:02.96), seeded 12th. Other notable finishes included Piotrowski in the 200 individual medley (29th, 2:27.42) and 100 backstroke (31st, 1:05.87), Olsen in the 50 freestyle (25th, 26.21), Sagnella in the 100 fly (29th, 1:07.79), and Holbrook in the 100 backstroke (34th, 1:10.44). Madison Osakowicz represented the Lady Knights in Class LL diving trials and finals at Middletown High School earlier in the week on Thursday, Nov. 10. Osakowicz advanced to the finals and finished 19th overall out of 26 divers with a score of 277.95. Southington will compete at the Class LL swimming championship at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Warm-up is at 5 p.m., and competition is at 6 p.m.

Girls Volleyball: No. 7 Southington was eliminated from the Class LL tournament after suffering a 3-2 loss at No. 2 Amity (19-1) in the quarterfinals on Saturday. The Lady Knights took the first two sets, 25-15, 29-27, but dropped the next three sets, 25-21, 25-23, 15-8, after surrendering a 22-7 lead in the fourth set. The Knights took an early 15-3 lead in the set. Hannah Zelina (4 digs) paced the offense with 14 kills. Morgan Raymond (13 kills) went 18-for-20 serving with five aces and anchored the defense with 19 digs. Erica Daigle (4 digs) went 19-for-21 from the service line with four aces. Julia Wells went 7-for-10 serving with a pair of aces. Kelly Kritz (9 kills, 7 digs) went 16-for-20 behind the line with two aces. Zelina and Erica Bruno (11 kills) attacked the net with three blocks each. Stephanie Zera (6 digs) dished out 47 assists. Megan Mahon (9 kills, 7 digs), Nolyn Allen (15 digs), and Sarah Myrick (6 digs) contributed as well. Amity will play No. 3 Stamford (20-2) at Trumbull High School, and No. 1 Greenwich (19-1) will play No. 4 Ridgefield (19-2) at Norwalk High School in the semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Southington finished the season at 16-4 overall.

Swimmers Qualified for Class LL Meet: Olivia Fournier (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle), Kerry Buchanan (500 freestyle, 200 freestyle), Patrycja Zajac (100 breaststroke), Madison Osakowicz (diving), Hannah Olsen (50 freestyle).

Remaining Undefeated Teams: Football (9-0).
