Girls Swimming & Diving: Madison Osakowicz represented the Lady Knights in Class LL diving trials at Middletown High School and advanced to the finals, finishing 19th overall out of 26 divers with a score of 277.95.
Girls Volleyball: After receiving a bye in the first round of the Class LL tournament, No. 7 Southington advanced to the quarterfinals for the third-straight year with a 3-1 victory (27-25, 16-25, 25-18, 25-21) over No. 10 Shelton (16-6) at home in the second round. Morgan Raymond (11 digs, 2 blocks) paced the offense with 18 kills and went 12-for-13 serving with a pair of aces. Hannah Zelina was perfect from the service line, going 18-for-18 with a triad of aces. Stephanie Zera (8 digs) went 16-for-18 serving with three aces and dished out 42 assists. Megan Mahon (15 kills, 6 digs) went 5-for-6 behind the line with two aces. Zelina and Mahon also teamed up to stop three spikes at the net with three blocks each. Nolyn Allen anchored the defense with 13 digs. Kelly Kritz (7 kills, 5 digs), Erica Bruno (6 kills, 2 blocks), Sarah Myrick (5 digs), and Erica Daigle (4 assists) contributed as well. The Lady Knights will look to continue their postseason run when they travel to Woodbridge to take on No. 2 Amity (18-1) in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. This will be Southington’s ninth appearance in the quarterfinals in Heitz’s 16-year tenure with the varsity program. The Knights have only missed qualifying for the state tournament just once under Heitz. Southington is currently 16-3 overall.
