Hayden Burbank got Southington rolling by scoring the first goal of the game at the 22nd minute of the first half off of a set piece from about 25 yards out. Alexis Frausto fed the ball to John Testa with about five minutes left before the break, and Testa scored his fourth goal in the last three games.
Ronaldo Nieto capped off the win with a goal a little less than three minutes into the second half, chipping a shot over the NW Catholic goalie’s head. Evan Daddona recorded his third-straight shutout with six saves on goal. Daddona now has six shutouts on the year.
Southington finished the regular season at 10-4-2 overall and 0-3-1 in the CCC Central Blue Division. The Knights fourth in the CCC Central Blue. Glastonbury (12-4, 9-2) edged Simsbury (9-7, 5-6), 3-1, in their regular season finale to grab the top spot.
Southington is entering the Class LL tournament as the 15th seed and will host No. 18 Newtown (8-3-4) in the first round on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m.
If the Knights win, they will play the winner of No. 34 Westhill (8-9) at No. 2 Greenwich (13-0-3) in the second round on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. The location of the game will be determined by the higher seeding of the winners.
Naugatuck (13-0-3) is the top seed in the tournament. No. 9 Glastonbury is the defending champion.
