As if the wait wasn’t enough, the Lady Knight soccer team will have a few more days before they face their first postseason opponent since 2013.

After making the Class LL tournament for the first time since 2013—also the first time in Southington coach Mike Linehan’s coaching tenure with the varsity program—Southington originally entered the postseason as the 15th seed with a home game against No. 18 Trumbull (8-6-2) in the first round on Monday, Nov. 7.

However, the game was cancelled due to an error made by the CIAC. The CIAC released the following statements on Monday, Nov. 7:

“The CIAC Class LL and L girls soccer matches scheduled for today, November 7, have been postponed to Wednesday, November 9 due to a seeding error discovered this morning with those tournaments. The Suffield High School team was incorrectly placed in the Class L tournament when the success in tournament factor used in designating soccer tournament divisions should have placed them in Class LL. The oversight was discovered this morning and CIAC notified schools as promptly as possible, reseeded the LL and L tournaments and made the corrections in the seeding and tournament schedules. The LL and L girls tournaments will have first-round games on Wednesday, with the following rounds on Friday and Sunday and then will return to its original schedule with semifinals November 15 and finals November 18 or 19.”

As a result, No. 16 Southington will host No. 17 Shelton (9-6-1) on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. If the Lady Knights win, they will play at top-seeded Glastonbury (16-0) on Friday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. in the second round. Glastonbury is the defending champion and has won its last 53 games, including the postseason, claiming three of the last five Class LL titles.
