These are the postseason updates for Southington High School’s varsity teams that are qualified for state competition. For more in-depth coverage, read next week’s Southington Observer.
Boys Soccer: The Blue Knights are entering the Class LL tournament as the 15th seed and will host No. 18 Newtown (8-3-4) in the first round on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. If the Knights win, they will play the winner of No. 34 Westhill (8-9) at No. 2 Greenwich (13-0-3) in the second round on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. The location of the game will be determined by the winner that is the higher seed. Naugatuck (13-0-3) is the top seed in the tournament. No. 9 Glastonbury (12-4-0) is the defending champion. Southington is currently 10-4-2 overall.
Girls Soccer: The Lady Knights are entering the Class LL tournament as the 15th seed and will host No. 18 Trumbull (8-6-2) in the first round on Monday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. If the Knights win, they will play at No. 2 Ridgefield (14-2) in the second round on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. Glastonbury (16-0) is the top seed in the tournament, as well as the defending champion. Glastonbury and Ridgefield both received byes in the first round. Southington is currently 10-5-1 overall.
Girls Swimming & Diving: The Lady Knights will travel to East Hartford High School for the Class LL swimming qualifier on Saturday, Nov. 12th. Warm-up is at 4:30 p.m. Competition is at 6:00 p.m. Following the qualifier, the Knights will compete against some of the best swimmers in the state at the Class LL swimming championship at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven on Wednesday, November 16. Warm-up is at 5:00 p.m. Competition is at 6:00 p.m. The following Knights are qualified for the state meet: Olivia Fournier (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle), Kerry Buchanan (500 freestyle, 200 freestyle), Patrycja Zajac (100 breaststroke), Hannah Olsen (50 freestyle). Madison Osakowicz will represent Southington in the Class LL diving championship at Middletown High School on Thursday, Nov. 10. Warm-up is at 4:00 p.m. Competition is at 5:30 p.m. Greenwich is the defending champion.
Girls Volleyball: The Lady Knights are entering the Class LL tournament as the seventh seed and will receive a bye in the first round. The Knights will host the winner of No. 23 Conard (8-9) at No. 10 Shelton (15-5) in the second round on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. Along with Southington, No. 1 Greenwich (17-1), No. 2 Amity (17-1), No. 3 Stamford (18-2), No. 4 Ridgefield (17-2), No. 5 Brien McMahon (16-3), No. 6 Cheshire (15-3), and No. 8 Newtown (15-4) all received byes in the first round. Fairfield Ludlowe is the defending champion and did not qualify for the tournament. Southington is currently 15-3 overall.
