Field Hockey: Southington earned their third-straight win by recording a season high of offensive goals in a game this season with a 6-2 victory over EO Smith (4-10-1) at home. Isabella DiBattista, Sydney Rice, Alexa Zborowski, and Hallie Altwies each scored a goal in the first half. Nicole Martocchio joined the scoring frenzy with a goal midway through the second half, and DiBattista added her second goal of the game moments later. Bianca D’Amore contributed with an assist. The Lady Knights took nine shots on goal and eight penalty corners. Amanda Delorme saved three of EO Smith’s seven shots on goal. Southington finished the week at 5-10 overall.
Football: After capturing their third-straight CCC Division I West title with a win over Conard at home the week prior, the Blue Knights capped off their divisional play with a 41-17 victory at New Britain (4-3) on Friday, Oct. 28. The win marked the sixth time this season that Southington scored a total of over 40 points. The Golden Hurricane defense kept the Knight offense off of the field for most of the first half, forcing Southington to punt the ball four times. But Southington pulled through with another strong second-half showing, scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter alone. The Knights tallied 445 yards of total offense. Vance Upham paced the offense with 240 yards and three touchdowns rushing on 30 carries, including a 54-yard scamper for a score. William Barmore completed 16 of 25 passes for 119 yards and three touchdowns. Richie Rivera caught two passes for 27 yards and a pair of scores. Southington held New Britain to 150 yards passing and 72 yards rushing. Joe Koczera anchored the defense with 11 tackles, including six assists. Tyson Harris (2 tackles, 2 assists) contributed as well by intercepting two passes. The Knights are currently 7-0 overall, finishing with an unblemished 4-0 record in CCC Division I West.
Boys Soccer: Southington earned their third-straight win by blanking Avon (4-9-2), 1-0, at home on senior night. John Testa scored the lone goal of the game during the 20th minute of the second half. The Blue Knights took 15 shots on goal. Evan Daddona saved five of Avon’s eight shots on goal. Southington finished the week at 9-4-2 overall.
Girls Soccer: The Lady Knights suffered their fourth loss of the season after falling short, 1-0, at Avon (10-4-1), shutout for the second time on the year. Southington’s last loss came at Glastonbury back on Sept. 23, where they also went scoreless, 7-0. Avon scored their lone goal of the game at the 34th minute of the second half. The Knights took six shots on goal and two corner kicks. Janelle Mangassarian saved 14 of Avon’s 18 shots on goal. Southington finished the week at 10-4-1 overall.
