Born on Dec. 28, 1930 in Cromwell to the late Gideon Nyren and Hildur (Gustavson) Nyren, he grew up in Southington and had been a longtime Wolcott resident.
Robert’s family started the Nyren Florist business in Southington where he worked with his father and uncles before leaving to start his own businesses, The Greenery in Plantsville and the Exotic Garden Florist and Garden Center in Wolcott, where he retired from in 2000. Robert was an avid gardener and loved plants of all kinds. He was a skilled floral designer and a master at Bonsai. He loved to read and play card games and was a big sports fan. Most of all, Robert was a loving husband and a kind and caring father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife Joyce, he is survived by 4 sons: Robert Nyren Jr., Peter Nyren and his wife Julie, David Nyren and his wife Sandi, and Jon Nyren and his wife Donna. He also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 2 brothers; Fred Nyren and wife Lita and Roy Nyren and his wife Nancy; one sister, Virginia Burr; the mother of his children, Betsy Schaut and many nieces and nephews.
