Scoreboard: Sports results on Friday, Oct. 21

These are the results for Southington High School’s varsity contests for Friday, Oct. 21. For more in-depth coverage, read next week’s Southington Observer.

 

Field Hockey: Southington ended their five-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over East Catholic (6-8) at home. Isabella DiBattista paced the Lady Knights with a pair of goals. Nicole Martocchio contributed with a score as well. Amanda Delorme saved seven shots in the cage. Southington is currently 3-10 overall.

Football: Coming off of their bye, the Blue Knights remained undefeated by achieved their sixth win on the year with a 42-14 victory over Conard (3-3) at home. Anthony Plantamuro scored three touchdowns three different ways—rushing, passing, and catching—including a 65-yard pass to Jack Herms to give Southington their first score of the game early in the first quarter. Brandon Kohl rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown on four carries. Will Barmore completed 13 of 22 passes for 162 yards and a pair of scores. Richard Rivera caught four passes for 51 yards and a touchdown. Southington’s defense held Conard to just 33 yards passing and forced three turnovers. Robert Bunting anchored the defense with nine tackles, including four assists and a forced fumble. The Knights are currently 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the CCC Division I West.

Boys Soccer: Southington squeaked out a 2-1 victory over a scrappy Middletown team (1-9-2) at home. Alexis Frausto and Elijah Rodriguez each scored a goal in the first half. Hayden Burbank contributed with an assist. Evan Daddona saved two shots on goal. The Blue Knights are currently 7-4-2 overall.

Girls Soccer: The Lady Knights traveled to Meriden where they were able to come away with their eighth-straight win with a 3-0 shutout at Maloney (4-9-1). Taylor Hubert, Melissa Drexler, and Katherine Crouse each scored a goal. Drexler, Crouse, and Nikki Carter contributed with assists. Southington took 25 shots on goal and 13 corner kicks, holding Maloney to just one shot on goal. Southington has recorded shutouts in all eight of their wins. The Knights are currently 10-3 overall.

Girls Volleyball: Southington achieved their seventh-straight win in their fourth-consecutive road match, recording a 3-0 shutout at Windsor (5-11). The Lady Knights are currently 12-3 overall.

Teams Qualified for State Tournament: Boys Soccer (7-4-2), Girls Soccer (10-3), Girls Volleyball (12-3).

Teams Eliminated from State Tournament: Field Hockey (3-10).

Swimmers Qualified for Class LL Meet: Olivia Fournier (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle), Kerry Buchanan (500 freestyle, 200 freestyle), Patrycja Zajac (100 breaststroke), Madison Osakowicz (diving), Hannah Olsen (50 freestyle).

Remaining Undefeated Teams: Football (6-0).
