Obituary: Betty Jean Cleaves Marr, 83

obit-betty-marrIt is with spiritual joy that the Marr family announces the passing of The Honorable Betty Jean Cleaves Marr on October 13, 2016.

Betty is joined, once again, with her beloved husband Basil William Marr as they now live in our Heavenly Father’s presence. She leaves a legacy on this earth by the many hearts she has touched during her 83 years here. Born in Presque Isle Maine on March 28th1933, she resided the majority of her life in Plantsville Connecticut. Betty wore many hats from the director of Grace Guitars at the Grace United Methodist Church of Southington CT, to being a Girl Scout Leader for 3 decades to thriving as Postmaster of the Marion Post Office in Marion CT for 30 years until her retirement.

She then traveled to Trenton, Florida to live with her oldest daughter Roxanne & son-in-love Gene. Among the many adventures in Betty’s life she strolled on the beaches of Hawaii, stood on icebergs of Alaska & walked among the Kings of Egypt. Her faith was ever steadfast in the God of her understanding and she always accepted with open arms all of God’s children whatever their walk in life was.

Betty & Basil have 2 daughters: Roxanne Marr-Laurendeau & husband Gene A. of Trenton FL and Corinne Marr-Grace & husband David Hunter of Naples ME. They were blessed with 4 grandchildren: Brooke Laurendeau-Harden & husband Alonzo Jay Harden III of Newberry FL, Lauren Wache of Maine, Alex Basil-Anthony DiReinzo of Naples ME and Jesse Michael DiReinzo also of Maine. 3 great-grandsons: Kyle Holsombach of Gainesville FL, Connor Waitkus of Montague MA & Alonzo Jay Harden IV of Newberry FL.

During the hours of her journey home, Betty was serenaded by her daughters on guitar & mandolin. Loved ones around her sang her favorite gospel hymns & country tunes. Prayers of comfort & peace were offered during the day by Gene as Brooke & Lauren attended tirelessly to their grandmother’s physical needs.

Betty’s family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation to the staff of Ayers Health & Rehabilitation.

“or, if, on joyful wing cleaving the sky; Sun, moon, and stars forgot, upward I fly. Still all my song shall be, near-er, my God, to Thee. Near-er my God, to Thee, near-er to Thee.”
