Obituary: Elizabeth Maria Fordiani, 58

obituariesElizabeth Maria Fordiani, 58, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2016 at home in Southington, CT surrounded by her loving family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Beth was born to Alfred L. Fordiani Jr. and Martha L. Fordiani on August 1, 1958 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Beth grew up in Meriden, Connecticut, graduating from Platt High School.  She attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, receiving a B.S. in Biology.  Beth went on to receive a Doctor of Nursing from the Francis Paine Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University where she received the Cushing-Robb prize for outstanding achievement in the Doctor of Nursing Program.  After practicing as a labor and delivery nurse for several years in Cleveland, Beth attended the Yale University School of Nursing, where she received a Masters Degree in Nurse-Midwifery.  She practiced as a Certified Nurse-Midwife in the Boston area for many years, helping hundreds of women bring new lives into the world.  Most recently Beth was employed as a nurse in the Southington school system.

Beth met her husband Peter in 1987, and they were married in 1990 in Middlefield, CT.  Beth devoted her life to the care, nurturing and upbringing of her two children, Gretchen and Benjamin, whom she loved and treasured so very much.  Beth was active in the Southington Youth Lacrosse Program and the Lady Knights Lacrosse Booster Club for many years.  Beth and her family enjoyed years of summer vacations hiking, camping, kayaking, bird watching, and otherwise enjoying the outdoors in and around Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island in Maine, and her family will cherish those memories forever. Beth was an avid cook and baker, and in particular loved to prepare meals for her family and friends at holiday get-togethers.

Beth is survived by her husband Peter W. Egan, daughter Gretchen L. Egan, and son Benjamin R. Egan, all of Southington; her father Alfred L. Fordiani Jr. and mother Martha L. Fordiani of Branford, CT; her sister Francesca Fordiani of Jamaica Plain, MA; her brother Alfred, sister-in-law Rita, niece Jillian and nephew Gino of Sudbury, MA; her brother Paul and sister-in-law Joanna of Darnestown, MD; her brother David and sister-in-law Jackie of Meriden, CT; her sister-in-law Abigail Reeve and her husband Stanley of Prides Crossing, MA; and her mother-in-law Barbara Egan of Manchester, MA.

Beth’s family wishes to thank all of her friends and family who provided support, prayers, thoughts, and messages of love and encouragement during the past year. In lieu of flowers her family requests that a donation be made to the YMCA Camp Sloper scholarship fund in care of the Southington Community YMCA, so that less fortunate children may have an opportunity to experience and enjoy outdoor adventure, learning and fun.

A memorial and remembrance service will be held on Saturday November 5 at 11:00 am at the Universalist Church of West Hartford, 433 Fern St., West Hartford, CT 06107. All are invited.
