Southington Rotary inducts new slate of officers

Robin Morrell was announced as the new Southington Rotary president and Craig Zettergren was named as the vice president when the group gathered at Testa’s Banquet Room on June 8. The Rotary announced officers for the upcoming term.

Dolores Fanelli will remain as Executive Secretary and Dan Daigle as Executive Treasurer. Audrey Brown was named as sergeant-at-arms.

In addition, Zettergren was presented with the “Rotarian of the Year” award for spearheading the Southington-opoly fundraiser earlier in the year.

Jenn Solomon, Lauren Dziedzic, Liz Szymanoski and Ralph Holyst received the “Rising Star Awards” as active new members. Rob Flood was awarded the “Above and Beyond Award” for his work with the 12th Annual William S. Thomson Memorial Tournament, which raises over $30,000 annually.

Kristine Noli accepted the “President’s Award” for her work on monthly Rotary night meetings which allow Rotarians a chance to gather in fellowship and support local restaurants.

This year’s “Appreciation Award” was awarded to two longtime Rotarians: Victoria Triano for her work with Southington Community Services and Elbe d’Oliveira for his commitment to record keeping and weekly club correspondence.

The Paul Harris Fellow Award is the highest honor that a Rotary Club can bestow on a member to thank individuals for their generous, ongoing support of The Rotary Foundation. This year the Rotary Club of Southington presented both Joanne Alfieri and Brendan Goodrich with this prestigious award for their longtime dedication to the Southington club.

The Rotary Club of Southington is one of the largest service organizations in town and raises approximately $50,000 every year which gets donated back to local, national, and international causes.

Some recent projects include the donation of a fully equipped truck to Community Services for their food pickup, as well as the funding of two neonatal ICU cameras for premature babies born in the University of Connecticut Medical Center. Southington Rotary supports other causes in town such as the new SoCCA building, Bread for Life, March of Dimes, Leading Ladies, Literacy Volunteers, Italian Festival, Healthy Family Fun Fest, United Way, and others.

The night concluded with the introduction of the new Board of Directors, including Steve Giudice (past president), Joanne Alvieri (club service), Brendan Goodrich and Victoria Triano (community service), Lauren Dziedzic (vocational service), Jenn Solomon (international service), Kate Sirignano (youth service), John Kennedy (rotary trust), and Ralph Holyst (director at large).
