To the editor:

We have an urgent and important opportunity to come together to preserve Catholic Education in Southington.

Catholic Education incorporates Christian and Catholic teachings and values with outstanding academics and discipline which develops the whole child. The Catholic Intellectual Tradition has produced outstanding universities, colleges, high schools, and elementary schools that continue to enhance the lives of so many students and families.

Southington Catholic is part of our community and open to all. I encourage you to promote our Southington Catholic School; encourage family and friends to attend, and do your part to preserve Catholic Education for the children of Southington.

Catholics should view the school as a valuable resource to pass their faith down to their children. Parishes should promote it as a necessary component of evangelization. Others should value it as resource for children of all faiths and a stalwart of religious freedom in general which combats secularization.

As a parent, however, I assure you that your children will be loved, nurtured, and well-educated.

Karen Matthews Leary, Southington
