Registration for the following classes and programs, unless otherwise noted, can be made at the Southington Recreation Department at (860) 276-6219. Checks should be payable to Town of Southington. MEMORIAL PARK POOL END OF SEASON HOURS—Closed for the season.

RECREATION PARK END OF SEASON POOL HOURS—Open through Sunday, Sept. 11. 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 9; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 10-11. More information at www.southington.org/pools.

NIA FITNESS CLASSES—Tuesdays, Sept. 20 to Dec. 13, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., in the community room at Strong Elementary School. Cost is $70. Nia classes are taken barefoot to soul-stirring music using movements from the martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. More info and online registration at www.southington.org/nia.

“GRANNY APPLE” ESSAY CONTEST—Essays must be submitted by Sept. 21. Who’s got the best “Granny” in Southington? The Apple Harvest Festival Committee invites Southington residents in grades 4-6 to nominate their grandmothers for a chance to be chosen as the “Granny Apple” of this year’s Festival. Essays in student’s handwriting should say why their grandmother is so special to them and why they think she should be the “Granny Apple.” The winning student and their grandmother will have the opportunity to ride in the Festival parade on Oct. 2. DOUBLE DUTCH AND JUMP ROPE CLASSES—Thursdays, Sept. 22 to Nov. 10, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Plantsville Elementary School gym. Open to Southington boys and girls ages 8 to 13. Cost is $40 per child. Class size is limited. More info and mail in forms at www.southington.org/JumpRope.

ADULT FITNESS CLASSES—Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 27 to Nov. 22, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.,in the Kennedy Middle School gym. Low/high aerobics and strength training with free weights. Cost is $60. More info and online registration at www.southington.org/fitness.

ADULT BEGINNER’S YOGA CLASSES—Tuesdays, Sept. 27 to Nov. 29, 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., in the Strong Elementary School gym. Cost is $50. Class size is limited. Info and online registration at www.southington.org/yoga.

SOUTHINGTON YOUTH BASKETBALL REGISTRATION—Saturday, Oct. 8, 8 a.m. to noon, at Derynoski Elementary School cafeteria. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Open to Southington boys and girls in grades 2-12. Proof of residency is required. Cost is $70 per player ($140 family max). A parent/guardian must sign the registration form. BUS TRIPS

For additional information and cost, visit www.southington.org/BusTrips Payment is due at registration. All trips are non-smoking and non-alcoholic. Insurance is available.
