The New England Carousel Museum is looking for volunteers for various tasks in and around the museum.
As a volunteer, you can set your schedule as you are available and willing to donate your time. Volunteers receive a free one year membership to the museum and invitations to museum events.
The museum is looking for volunteers for building maintenance and repair. We are looking for people with carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and handyperson abilities, as well as outdoor maintenance to help trim, weed, and tend to the museum grounds. From re-roofing the gazebo to painting a porch, maintaining the furnace to repairing a broken chair, people with a variety of maintenance skills are needed to help both inside and outside the building.
The museum is always looking for people who own pickup trucks to help move horses or pick up horses that are being donated to the museum. The museum would like to create a “Call When Needed” list of volunteer people we can count on when the time comes and trucks are needed. The museum also needs trucks when dump runs are needed or when mulch needs to be picked up.
The museum is also in need of volunteers who are interested in helping out with upcoming children’s programs. Those who have experience with and enjoy working with children would make a welcome addition to these groups.
Additionally, help is needed around the museum office. Office volunteers help with data entry, mass mailings, and various clerical tasks. Do you have any grant writing skills, would you like to try your hand at writing media releases, or working with us to do fundraising? There is something for everyone.
It is Harley Davidson Raffle time again for the museum, its largest fundraiser each year. The museum needs help promoting our raffle, getting the word out by bringing flyers around the community and beyond. It also needs volunteers to help take the bike to country fairs and other locations to help set up the booth to sell tickets and distribute literature about museum programs. The museum plans to attend the Terryville Fair, Goshen Fair, Durham Fair, Berlin Fair and the Riverton Fair.
If any of these areas are of interest to you, there will be a Volunteer Open House on Sunday, Sept. 11, from 12 to 5 p.m., with a welcome meeting and remarks at 3:30 p.m.. Come down and see what we are all about.
The Carousel Museum is located at 95 Riverside Ave., Route 72 in Bristol.
