Police were called to Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at approximately 9 p.m., with reports of a three car accident with injuries in the area of Canal Street. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Traci Creem, 45, of Meriden for driving under the influence and closed the road for approximately an hour during the investigation.
According to the report, two vehicles were stopped at a traffic signal, facing eastbound traffic when Creem rear-ended the second vehicle, pushing it into front vehicle. Creem’s vehicle and the second vehicle sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene. The front vehicle did not require towing.
Minor injuries were reported, but no one involved was transported to the hospital. The road was closed for approximately one hour during the investigation.
Creem stated she took her eyes off of the roadway to read a text message, at which time she struck the vehicle ahead of her. Further testing on scene showed that Creem was allegedly operating under the influence.
Creem was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drug, following too closely, use of a hand-held mobile device while driving, and distracted driving. She was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on Aug. 29.
