Registration for the following classes and programs, unless otherwise noted, can be made at the Southington Recreation Department at (860) 276-6219. Checks should be payable to Town of Southington. SOUTHINGTON POOL HOURS—Pools at Recreation Park and Memorial Park are open. Hours of operation are, Mondays thru Fridays, 12 p.m.-8 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pools are free and open to Southington residents, but residents may bring one non-resident guest. Proper ID and proof of residency is required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. More info at

MEN’S & WOMEN’S SOFTBALL (FALL)—Registrations is underway for men’s and women’s fall recreation softball leagues. Open to town residents, property owners, and SHS graduates. Cost is $400 per men’s team and $250 per women’s team. A maximum of three out of town players per team are allowed ($50 per person). Teams must register and pay by Wednesday, Aug. 31. Photo ID copies will be required for anyone who did not participate in the 2016 summer league. Roster forms at

TENNIS MATCH PLAY (FALL)—Tuesdays and Saturdays, Sept. 6-Oct. 29, 6 p.m.-7 p.m. (Tuesdays) and 10 a.m.-11 a.m. (Saturdays), at Panthorn Park tennis courts. Open to Southington residents, ages 10-18. Experienced tennis players will compete against each other in an organized setting with guidance from the Rec Dept. tennis coaches. Cost is $65 per player. Space is limited. More info at

BEGINNER TENNIS LESSONS (FALL)—Wednesdays, Sept. 7-Oct. 26, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. (Group I) or 6:45 p.m.-7:45 p.m. (Group II), at Panthorn Park tennis courts. Open to Southington residents. Group I is for boys and girls, ages 4-8, with no prior tennis experience. Group II is for ages 4-8 with attendance with at least one previous Recreation Dept. camp. Cost is $65. Space is limited. DOG OBEDIENCE CLASSES—Wednesdays, Sept. 7-Oct. 19 (beginners) or Thursdays, Sept. 8-Oct. 20 (intermediate), 6:15 p.m.-7:15 p.m., at The Summit at Plantsville, 261 Summit St., Plantsville. Instructor is Kevin Medeiros. All dogs must be at least 3 months of age by the first class and have up-to-date vaccinations. Beginner level participants are asked to attend the first class (Sept. 7) without their dogs. Cost is $105 per dog. Info and forms available at


Free concerts, along with a free car show, takes place every Wednesday through Aug. 31 on the Town Green. Music begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. Rain dates will be held on Thursdays. Dogs, skateboards, in-line skates/rollerblades, bicycles, scooters (gas, battery or push) and motorized vehicles are not allowed on the grounds during this event. A $25 violation fee applies. Police dogs, as well as dogs certified for use by disabled persons, are exempt.
