Police arrest motorist for brandishing fake gun on I-84

State police arrested a Southington man for brandishing a fake gun at motorists on I-84 Westbound in Cheshire and Southington. Jason Brian Marek, 35, of 585 Pleasant St. in Southington, was arrested and charged with illegal use/possession of a facsimile handgun and breach of peace.

State police received reports around 7:05 p.m. that the operator of a westbound motor vehicle was displaying a handgun to other motorists. A description of the vehicle was obtained, and police began the search.

The vehicle was located exiting the highway at exit 18 in Waterbury. The vehicle was stopped, and Marek was apprehended. The facsimile handgun was located in the vehicle.

Marek was transported to the Southbury State Police barracks and processed. He was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Aug. 22, 2016.
