Among the traditional favorite festivities at Southington’s Italian-American Festival, two new special events have been added to this year’s line-up.
The 12th annual cultural festival will take place on July 29, 30, and 31 on the lower portion of Center Street. The festival will be open from 5p.m. to 11p.m. on Friday, 1p.m. to 11p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 6p.m. on Sunday.
This year’s first new event will present festival-goers with a challenge – how many meatballs can you eat?
With meatballs donated from Aria, in Prospect, food-lovers will be tasked with filling their stomachs with more meatballs than their competitors. The eating competition will take place on Saturday at 4p.m. on the main stage for all to see.
There will be chances to win in two age groups; 14-years-old and younger and 15-years-old and up.
Later that evening, visiting singers Amerino and Maria will take the stage. The Italian singers both hail from Naples, Italy. They will perform at 9p.m. on Saturday and 2p.m. on Sunday.
