To the editor:

I want to thank the Nancy Lee Salerno Foundation for supporting the Southington Relay For Life with food and over $6,000 in total donations for “Team Survivor,” which I am the captain.

Nancy Lee’s memory will always be with us—her battle with cancer and the tragic accident that took her life at age 61; killed by a drunk driver. She was a long time resident of Southington and is remembered fondly for her energy, her giving spirit, and her devotion as the mother of five children. She was involved in her family business (Tops Market) and Carmela Marie Caterers when she wasn’t working in her nursing profession.

I also had wonderful support from my team members. The Southington Relay For Life is an 18-year tradition, and I am one of the founders of this special event.

I also want to thank the community of Southington for helping us fight the fight against cancer. A special thank you to Chairperson Joyce McAloon, and to Brian Goralski for getting us on the “track.”

We had another great year. We raised over $100,000. The total is expected to grow after all contributions are in.

Rosemary Champagne, Southington
