Man arrested for invading Mt. Vernon home with an ax

Southington police announced the arrest of Steven Soucy, 29, of Plainville, for trying to break into the front door of a house on Mount Vernon Rd. with an ax.

On June 25, at approximately 5:24 p.m., police were dispatched to 1574 Mount Vernon Rd. According to the report, Soucy rang the doorbell and asked for a photograph. When the resident said no, he noticed Soucy holding an ax in his right hand. The resident then hid inside the house and called 911, reporting the sound of an ax banging against the front door.

The victim and Soucy were roommates for approximately three months in the past.

When police arrived, Soucy had left the area, but officers located him walking on Jude Lane. He was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported, but there was an estimated $400 worth of damage to the front door.

Soucy was arrested and charged with home invasion, first degree burglary, second degree criminal mischief, and second degree breach of peace. He was held on a $50,000 bond with an appearance date of June 27, 2016 at the Bristol Superior Court.
