Ray Gawlak of Meriden will be exhibiting his photography at The Gallery at The Orchards from July 1 to July 31. The title of his show is “Something Old, Something New.”
The exhibit will feature a variety of images including nature and seascape photos of New England, Europe and New Zealand. Gawlak graduated from Southern Connecticut University, in 1962, and then taught sixth and seventh grade science before opening his studio in 1968. He has exhibited in many libraries, galleries and the Phoenix Mutual headquarters in Hartford.
Gawlak has won many prizes at professional organizations and art competitions; the most recent being first prize in photography at the Pomperaug Woods Art of Experience Juried Art Show in 2015. That prize enabled him to exhibit his winning piece at Mattatuck Museum for a month’s show.
Throughout his career, Gawlak has done extensive sports and portrait photography. He has specialized in outdoor and location portraiture, which he believes offers his subjects the chance to feel more at ease as well as offering a greater variety of lighting and posing possibilities.
