State Rep. Joe Aresimowicz (D) announced more than $1.6 million in state grants to Southington on Friday.

The State Bond Commission approved two grants to maintain and improve bridges in Southington. The aid to the town was awarded in two grants from the Department of Transportation’s Local Bridge Program.

The bridge over Eight Mile River at the West Center Street Extension has been granted $822, 750 in aid, and a Spring Street bridge over the Quinnipiac River was granted $823,708 in aid. Both were approved on May 27.

“This funding is crucial to our municipalities,” said Aresimowicz in a press release Friday, “It is vital to ensure that Southington is able maintain its infrastructure and meet our community’s needs despite the tough economic times the state is facing.”
