Trocchi picked as new CEO at Wheeler

Sabrina Trocchi, Ph.D. Candidate, MPA, was named Wheeler’s chief operating officer. In this role, she is responsible for implementing a systemic approach to the development and execution of organizational strategy and administering and managing the organization’s service and quality operations. She joined Wheeler in 2014 as chief strategy officer and implemented strategic initiatives, partnerships, ventures and alliances to drive organizational growth and service expansion to meet community needs.

“This appointment reflects our strategic direction as a whole-person health care provider dedicated to improving access, reducing costs and increasing quality for those we serve,” said Susan Walkama, LCSW, president and chief executive officer, Wheeler. “Sabrina’s background, experience and leadership make her a natural fit for this position.”

Prior to joining Wheeler, Trocchi served in a number of leadership positions at other organizations. She was a senior vice president of health care and system operations, overseeing care-related program operations, quality administration and management activities.  She also served as chief of staff for the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and directed the planning, development and garnering of more than $170 million in new federal funds for the expansion and enhancement of clinical substance abuse and/or mental health treatment and prevention services. She also provided leadership and direct oversight to DMHAS’ six state-operated local mental health authorities and the following DMHAS departments: Community Services, Prevention/Health Promotion, Multicultural Affairs, Research, Veteran Services, and Evaluation, Quality Management & Improvement.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Hartford. She is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Connecticut Health Center, focusing on public health with a concentration in behavioral health. Her anticipated doctoral program completion date is December 2016.
