Girls Lacrosse plays the spoiler

Lacrosse - SHSThe Lady Knights finished their regular season on a high note by playing spoiler, knocking Newington out of the Class L tournament after defeating the Indians by three goals, 17-14, on the road on Tuesday, May 24.

Although the Indians outscored the Knights by a goal, 8-7, in the second half, a halftime lead of 10-6 was just enough to help Southington secure the win.

Morgan Raymond paced the Knights with five goals, five draws, and four ground balls. Emily Gibney trailed with three goals. Anna Laone (1 assist) and Addie Kilgore (2 assists) each finished with a pair of scores. Laone also recovered three ground balls and won six draws.

Sydney Brault (1 assist), Nickolina Doran, Hallie Altwies (1 assist), Jess Karwowski, and Sarah Mafale all contributed with a goal.

Julia Wells saved 15 shots on goal in the cage for the Knights. Newington outshot Southington 29-26.

The Knights (3-13) finished the 2016 season with tied for 24th in Class L with an 0-7 divisional record in the CCC North.
