With three wins last week, the Blue Knights golf team stretched their win streak to five, staying in contention for the top foursome at the upcoming Division I tournament. The Knights did so while also earning experience on the road to help prepare them for the state tournament as well.
Southington hosted Avon in their final home match of the regular season on Monday, May 16, defeating the Falcons by 10 strokes, 154-164.
Ryan Burrill marshaled the Knights with a 34 (1-under-par) as medalist of the match. Andrew Szandrocha followed two strokes behind with a 36. Andrew Rogalski shot a 40, and Jake D’Alessandro rounded out the top four with a 44.
The locals met up with Cheshire right down the street a couple days later at their previous home course, Southington Country Club. Southington recorded a second-straight 154 team score to earn a 154-169 victory over the Rams.
Burrill came into the clubhouse with the top score, 37 (1-over-par), of the match. Szandrocha backed Burrill with a 38. Nate L’Heureux jumped into the varsity mix with a 39, and Rogalski trailed one shot behind with a 40.
The Knights secured their 13th win of the season at Pequabuck Golf Club in Terryville on Thursday in a 149-186 triumph over Bristol Central.
Szandrocha earned medalist honors with a 35 (1-under-par). L’Heureux hung around the top with a 37. D’Alessandro carded a 38, and Burrill contributed with a 39.
The Knights are set to close out their regular season with matches against Conard (21.24) on Monday, May 23 and Hall (17.8) on Tuesday, May 24. Both matches are to be played at Rockledge Golf Club in West Hartford. A win or tie against Conard would clinch the Blue Division title of the CCC Central.
Southington is 5-1 in the division and second in Division I behind Darien (9.38) with a course differential of 11.24.
