The Knights began the week at Newington on Monday, May 9 where they took the Indians to a fifth set, but fell short, 3-2. Southington led the series with wins in games one and three, but the Hornets answered each time, winning the series with a 17-15 victory in game five.
Louis Gianacopolos Jr. (10 digs, 2 blocks) paced Southington with 12 kills and went 11-for-15 serving. Brian Durocher (13 digs, 2 blocks) finished with 11 kills and went 13-for-14 behind the line.
Jack Dietz (7 blocks, 6 kills) went 20-for-21 with two aces. Mike Aberizk (9 kills, 9 digs) went 17-for-19 with three aces.
Jordan Meier (12 digs, 4 blocks) dished out 41 assists. Devin Prive contributed with 10 kills.
Southington remained out on the road on Friday where they continued a two-game skid at South Windsor, 3-1. The Knights rebounded from a 25-20 loss in game one to tie the series in game two (26-24). South Windsor clinched the series with wins in games three and four, 25-18, 25-14.
Dietz (5 digs, 4 blocks) anchored the offense with 11 kills and went 12-for-14 serving with three aces. Aberizk (17 digs, 2 blocks) finished with 10 kills. Gianacopolos Jr. (12 digs, 8 kills), Durocher (15 digs, 5 kills), Meier (31 assists), and Prive (5 blocks) contributed.
The Knights will look rebound this week against Bulkeley-HMTCA (1-12), Maloney (8-8), and Glastonbury (8-6).
Southington is currently fifth in Class L behind East Hartford, Darien (17-1), Conard (11-2), and Ridgefield (13-3). Southington is also fourth in the CCC with a 4-1 record in the CCC South.
