A local roofing company is looking to help families in Hartford and New Haven counties keep a roof over their head for the coming year. V. Nanfito Roofing and Siding, LLC., Meriden, will be taking part in the nationwide “No Roof Left Behind” program.

Homeowners in need of a new roof or roof repairs can submit a nomination to the contest, now through June 30, with a chance to win an entirely free new roof.

The project began in 2009 as a way to help “good neighbors that have fallen on hard times,” according to the NRLB website, and Vincent Nanfito is proud to make the project an annual tradition for his Meriden company.

“This is a great way for us to give back to the community doing something we know best, replacing a deserving family’s roof,” said Nanfito.

No-Roof-Left-BehindIndividuals and families can nominate themselves or others until June 30, when the nominees will be open to public voting until Aug. 25. Nanfito hopes that the community will help his company choose the most deserving recipients.

Last year, Miriam Reyes nominated her parents for a new roof after her father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease at the age of 74. The couple received a brand new roof on their home on Ivy Street in New Haven.

This year, Nanfito hopes to double the donation.

“Last year, it was an amazing feeling to be able to provide something so important to such a wonderful family facing hard times,” said Nanfito. This year, they will donate to two families.

Nanfito said that since they represent two counties, they will give away two roofs. The contest is open to any homeowner in New Haven or Hartford counties.

“The roof on someone’s home is such a pivotal, yet expensive portion of a home,” said Nanfito, who said the financial burden of a roof repair can cause a lot of financial stress.

General Manager Armand Martinez said the estimated value of the givebacks will likely exceed $20,000.

“Giving away these roofs cannot only save their home but relieve their stress and help to restore people’s faith in humanity,” said Nanfito.

Nominations can be made through June 30 by visiting noroofleftbehind.com/program/ct/1140.

Voting will begin on July 4 and conclude on Aug. 25. Winners will be announced on Sept. 1.
