Thefts continue at St. Thomas Cemetery

Since January 2016, there have been eight reported thefts of marble statues from Saint Thomas Cemetery, located on Meriden Avenue in Southington, and police are asking residents for help in apprehending the thieves.

The most recent thefts occurred during the overnight hours on Wednesday, May 4 and Thursday, May 5. Police report that a person or persons entered the cemetery and stole statues from two separate gravestones.

Police have concentrated patrols in the area in an effort to thwart these types of thefts, but they are asking for residents’ assistance. Anyone with information regarding the thefts or with reports of suspicious individual in and around the cemetery are urged to contact the police at (860) 621-0101 to report the activity.

The investigation into the thefts is active and ongoing.
