Softball rebounds from first loss with 3 game streak

The Lady Knights (10-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season with a new, three game winning streak. In the midst of those three wins came qualifying for the Class LL state tournament, a goal that they had set out to accomplish coming into the season.

Finishing Farmington

It took just five innings to score a 24-0 win over Farmington on Wednesday.

Softball - SHSSouthington wasted no time coming out of the gate, putting up nine runs in the first inning and adding rallies of four runs in the second, five in the fourth, and six in the fifth.

Sarah Myrick went 2-for-2 with a run scored and a walk. Katie Semmel went 2-for-2 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a walk. Janette Wadolowski went 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs scored, and a double. Frankie Ferrante went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Natalie Wadolowski contributed with three RBI, a double, and a sacrifice fly. Maighread Scafariello contributed with a triple. Nolyn Allen scored four runs, and Amanda Delorme and Tori Aldieri each scored two.

Starter Kara Zazzaro was credited with the win after going one inning with a strikeout. Brenna Sarantides pitched three strikeouts in the next inning, and Delaney Picard closed out the game with two strikeouts.

Southington totaled 17 hits. Farmington had one hit and committed nine errors.

No Mercy in Hartford

The next day, Southington’s trip to Annie Fisher Field in Hartford only lasted five innings after the Knights mercy-ruled Weaver (2-6), 19-0. The Knights scored three runs in the first and third, four in the second, and nine in the fourth.

Ferrante went 2-for-2 with a triple and a walk. Natalie Wadolowski went 2-for-2 with four RBI, a run scored, and a home run.

Mahon contributed with three RBI, two runs scored, and a home run. Abby Lamson batted in two runs and scored two. Aldieri, Emily Mankus, and Michelle Woodruff each scored two runs.

Sarantides started the game and went one inning with two strikeouts. Zazzaro went one inning with three strikeouts. Picard closed out the game and allowed just two hits.

Southington totaled 14 hits. Weaver committed six errors.

One run gets it done

Southington played in its closest game of the season at Bristol Central (8-3) on Friday, escaping the Rams with a 1-0 victory.

Woodruff (2-for-3) led the game off with a single and eventually came around to score after stealing second and third. Sarantides drove in Woodruff by fielder’s choice.

Natalie Wadolowski went 2-for-3, and Ferrante finished with a double and a stolen base.

Zazzaro started the game and went three innings with five strikeouts, allowing two hits and a walk. Sarantides closed out the game and picked up the win, tossing six strikeouts and allowing three walks.

Southington totaled nine hits and committed two errors. Bristol Central committed one error.

Southington is currently third in the CIAC’s Class LL rankings behind Cheshire (11-0) and NFA (10-1).
